A native to Santa Rosa de Cabal, Risaralda-Colombia, Coach Oscar began his futbol career as a goalkeeper at the age of 6 in the local youth team named “Juventud” before playing for All-Town & State Teams as a Starter Goalkeeper from 1992-1998. In the second semester of 1999, Coach Oscar played with the Once Caldas F.C. Third Division Youth team with whom he won the State Championship & got to experience goalkeeper training sessions with the professional Once Caldas F.C. squad. In 2000, Coach Oscar signed a semiprofessional contract with Deportivo Pereira F.C. as a starter goalkeeper before moving in September of the same year to the United States to begin his collegiate career playing for Gordon College where he was awarded the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) II Region XVII All-Tournament Team. He then played for the Brewton Parker College Team between 2002-2003, where he received the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association (NAIA) All-Conference Second Team & Player Leadership Awards. In 2004, Coach Oscar moved on to Fresno Pacific University where his team was ranked one of the top 5 NAIA Men’s Soccer programs of the nation, won the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Title & he also received the Most Inspirational Player award. In 2005, after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science, Coach Oscar began his coaching career at Fresno Pacific University as the Men’s and Women’s Soccer goalkeeper coach while still playing at the highest competitive soccer adult league in Fresno, CA. It was in 2007 that Oscar was selected as the starter goalkeeper for the Fresno “Malibu” All-Star Team with whom they won the “Tecate Cup” National Championship, the most competitive amateur futbol tournament in the United States & made history for being the only team from Fresno to win such a tournament. One year earlier, Oscar became the Fresno Pacific University Men’s & Women’s Soccer Head Strength & Conditioning coach while continuing to develop the Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper program. It was in May of 2011 that Coach Oscar acquired his Master of Arts in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology from California State University, Fresno, and in June of 2011 Coach Oscar became a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). After moving across the nation in 2011 and settling in Georgia, Oscar started his current teaching career as a Elementary Physical Education teacher for World Language Academy. While being a teacher, Oscar has been provided with the opportunity to be the Head Strength and Conditioning/goalkeeper coach for the Men’s Soccer, Raiders and wrestling high school teams of 2 well known high schools in the North region of GA. He is a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) member, holds USSF Goalkeeping Level I, II & III licenses, has been part of the Lanier Sharks Association and Alliance Football Club as Boys & Girls Pre-Academy Head Coach, Academy Human Performance Specialist, and Goalkeepers coach. In addition, coach Oscar has been working with individual clients on and off for the past 21 years, ensuring that the effects of aging are minimized and clients reach their full potential while developing and maximizing functional skills required for daily living, job performance, and participation in “recreational” sports. Expertise Areas: Design & Implementation of Resistance & Conditioning Training Programs, Olympic Weightlifting, Reflexive Performance Resetting [RPR], Vestibular Activation Resetting [VAR], Neural Plasticity and Proper Movement Mechanics development, Mobility/Flexibility/Injury Prevention, & the 5-point Functional Movement Screening (FMS) Testing. In addition to these areas of expertise, Coach Oscar possesses a God given ability to empower individuals/athletes with exceptional technique, control, problem solving, improvisation skills & whole person development (i.e., respect for self & others, courage, communication, and discipline) so they can achieve their highest individual potential. Coach Oscar is a proud father of four children: Meliah, Cristian & Cristopher, and a little angel in heaven. His favorite pastimes are building relationships and providing tools to people so they can be empowered to be the best version of themselves. He also loves salsa dancing, techno music, hiking, researching and experimenting with training programs, eating multicultural cuisine, & of course playing/watching/analyzing Olympic games and the most beautiful game of all time, futbol.
